Uterine Fibroids

Uterine Fibroids

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths that develop in or around the uterus and are among the most common gynecologic conditions affecting women during their reproductive years. While some fibroids cause no symptoms, others can lead to heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, pressure, frequent urination, or fertility concerns. Early evaluation can help determine the most appropriate treatment based on your symptoms and overall health.

At Gemini OBGYN, we provide comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for uterine fibroids with a personalized approach to care. Our providers take the time to understand your symptoms, perform a thorough evaluation, and recommend treatment options that align with your health goals, lifestyle, and future pregnancy plans.

Fibroids vary in size, number, and location, so treatment is individualized for each patient. Depending on your symptoms, recommendations may include watchful waiting, medication to help manage heavy bleeding or pain, hormonal therapies, minimally invasive procedures, or surgery when appropriate. Our goal is to relieve your symptoms while preserving your reproductive health whenever possible.

Diagnostic testing may include a pelvic examination, ultrasound, or additional imaging to determine the size and location of your fibroids. Once a diagnosis is made, your provider will review your treatment options and help you make an informed decision about your care.

Whether you live in Pembroke Pines, Miramar, Cooper City, Davie, Hollywood, Southwest Ranches, Plantation, or the surrounding Broward County communities, Gemini OBGYN is committed to providing compassionate care and effective treatment for uterine fibroids.

Fibroids FAQs

What are the symptoms of uterine fibroids?

Many women with fibroids experience no symptoms. When symptoms do occur, they commonly include heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding, pelvic pressure or pain, frequent urination, constipation, lower back pain, pain during intercourse, or difficulty becoming pregnant. The type and severity of symptoms often depend on the size and location of the fibroids.

Do all fibroids need to be treated?

No. Fibroids that are small and not causing symptoms may simply be monitored during routine gynecologic visits. Treatment is generally recommended when fibroids cause significant pain, heavy bleeding, fertility concerns, or interfere with your daily activities.

What treatment options are available for fibroids?

Treatment depends on the size of the fibroids, your symptoms, and whether you plan to have children in the future. Options may include medication, hormonal therapy, minimally invasive procedures, myomectomy to remove fibroids while preserving the uterus, or hysterectomy in more advanced cases. Your provider will recommend the approach that’s best for your individual needs.
